Project Description
Álvaro’s grant plan is to help athletes develop basic leadership skills which will prepare them to have leadership roles in Special Olympics and the community. With the goals of more participation and inclusion, he hopes to empower participants as future leaders. To develop leadership skills, Álvaro will use the Special Olympics curriculum (Introduction to Athlete Leadership and Understanding Leadership) as well as the advanced modules (Understanding Emotions, Engaging with Others, Leading Conversations, Time Management, and Unified Leadership). He plans to review and adapt modules when necessary to fit in with the national Special Olympics program. With the help of the Youth Activation Committee Álvaro will select at least 20 participants. He also wants to educate athletes on leadership roles that are available to them. This will help empower athletes and unified partners as future leaders. To evaluate the success of his project, Álvaro plans to compile intermediate and final reports.
